THE LABEL
Sara Shimasué launched her
eponymous womenswear line in 2009. The Sara Shimasué philosophy centres on creating and producing well-made, distinct yet versatile, pieces with an emphasis on shape, silhouette and unexpected details. The label appeals to the woman who loves fresh design, appreciates a little edginess and who may reference trends but not slavishly follow them. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY Sara Shimasué endeavors to create garments that are
individualistic yet versatile, decidedly strong yet feminine and seeks
to create a mood rather than merely interpret direct influences. Inspirations are often a mixture of wide-ranging subjects, sometimes the fleeting remains of a a blurry dream, other times juxtaposing the masculine with the feminine. Pieces are created through hands on experimentation of structure and exploration of techniques as well as texture, with an emphasis on shape, silhouette and unexpected details.

BIOGRAPHY Sara Shimasué was brought up in Stockholm, Sweden on Swedish meatballs with Japanese rice and cinnamon swirls with green tea, by a Japanese abstract artist father and a Swedish mother with a particular fondness for British crime novels. Craving a life less ordinary she was lured to London
where she soon fell in love with legendary nightclub Smashing! -
entranced by the regulars in their fantastical outfits and the glamorous
hedonistic atmosphere. A period of self discovery followed - selling clothes in a Portobello boutique, hanging out in Camden, sales assisting in Red or Dead, working in television production and making a short film in rainy Margate, among other things. As the pieces of the jigsaw finally fell in to place she embarked om a life-changing journey at London College of Fashion, emerging after four years with a first class honours degree. Sara Shimasué was recently nominated as the 'Next Big Thing' in a competition launched by Westfield Studio East. Sara Shimasué has worked with designers such as Minimarket, Jens Laugesen and Fashion Fringe winner Eun Jeong.
